I got dropped 0ff by Mark, (the guy I stayed with last night) in Granby, CO. It cut off about 26 miles of pavement. That was really nice because I knew I had a big climb ahead of me, I just didn't know how big. I'm taking a detour to see David and Kristi in Denver. There wasn't really an easy way to get there so I went on Hwy 34 from Granby to Estes Park. When I got into Rocky Mountain National Park I got a map of the road and on the map it said, "12,183 ft. Highest point on road." Uffda. I was thinking in the low 10,000, but whatever its Colorado. I better get used to it. The 20 mile climb was long and slow, but gradual enough to make it doable. The views were amazing and the descent was probably the best so far. Finishing up the day with 18 miles of downhill sure left a smile on my face. The quirky highlight of the day was getting a free peach from a roadside peach stand around Granby Lake. The guy said it was too ripe to sell, but it was perfect for me. Juicy and delicious.
